Dear Friends of Mexico Ministries:
Greetings in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am writing this letter in the middle of August having just returned from a three week trip to Atoyac, Guerrero, Mexico, where I celebrated my 89th birthday. I started going to Atoyac when I first began Mexico Ministries (in the late 70s) and it has served as a kind of mother church for so many of the churches in the area. From there we spread out all through the mountains and villages and built more churches than I can count. As a center of operations Atoyac has a large church, a Bible school, a medical clinic, and through my lifelong friend Tom Shaffer, a water well drilling ministry. It is a blessing to see the ministries there thriving after all these decades.
While there, I had a strong sense of being about the purpose to which God has called me — and that is to be a shepherd. I met with pastors and people, I worshiped with them, I went to their homes and prayed with the sick and the dying, I gave counsel to them. It was such a fruitful visit and my plans are to return there for another extended stay in October.
One personal note: as usual, my friends there insisted we spend one day on the beach. We landed at an isolated beach after a short boat ride and it dawned on me I’d have to deal with deep sand. What was I to do? But my friends had it figured out: a wheelbarrow! They loaded me off the boat and into the barrow and away we went to dinner and fellowship on the beach!
When I returned I told my son, Ken, that I felt like my old self down there. I am so thankful to God that granted me over 50 years of serving Him in Mexico, and I intend to keep on until he calls me home. Thank you for standing with me and supporting me in this ministry.
